You don't need to be "gifted."
Pottery can feel overwhelming when you're first starting. I know because I've been there too. Pottery takes time, and every piece teaches you something new. Some days things go exactly as planned, and some days they don't. That's completely normal. Give yourself permission to experiment, make mistakes, and have fun along the way.
Through years of making pottery, testing glazes, firing kilns, and learning from mistakes, I've picked up a lot along the way.
The goal of this course is to share everything I've learned over the years so your pottery journey can feel a little easier and more enjoyable.
Hello all! I’m Min Oh.
The ceramicist behind tiny_fish_production.
I create small batch pottery meant to be used and enjoyed every day: mugs, bowls, plates, teapots, ramen bowls, and seasonal design.
My pottery journey started in college when I took a ceramics class just for fun. I didn’t know at the time that one class would become such an important part of my life. Over the years, I built my own studio, spent countless hours practicing, testing glazes, firing kilns, and learning from both my successes and mistakes.
Every piece I create carries a little part of my process, from the design and making to the final glaze firing. I’ve shared my work through markets, online sales, and handmade collections.
Pottery has taught me patience, creativity, and the joy of continuing to learn. It has also taught me to stay humble and appreciate the process, knowing there is always something new to learn.
Who this is for?
Maybe you've never touched clay. Maybe you tried a class once, couldn't center to save your life, and gave up. Either way, this course starts from scratch and builds up - no assumptions, no skipping steps.
You'll learn how to prepare your clay, center it on the wheel, open and pull forms, and get pieces through the full process from raw clay to finished, usable object.
What you'll walk away with:
Working with clay without constantly fighting it
Tools, prep, and the basics of what makes clay behave the way it does.
Making real products that you're going to use
Bowls, mugs, plates, built step by step the way I make them in my studio.
Seeing your work as more than a hobby
Pricing, selling, and developing a style that's recognizably yours.
Twelve steps to your first kiln:
Modules 1&2
Getting Started with Pottery
Course overview, how I work, and where ideas come from. We look at inspiration sources like everyday objects, travel, and seasonal shifts, so you start building your own visual instincts before touching clay.
Modules 3&4
Tools, Materials & Main Techniques
A hands-on introduction to the materials. What clay to use, how it behaves, and how to set yourself up so the basics actually make sense when you try them.
Modules 5&6
Your First Functional Pieces
Your first real projects: a ramen bowl and a colander. You'll learn to shape, trim, and refine, getting familiar with how a piece moves from wet clay to something finished.
Modules 7&8
Mugs & Creative Techniques
Handles, refined shapes, colored clay, decorative finishes. The focus shifts from just making a form to making it yours.
Modules 9&10
Plates & Selling Your Work
How to throw plates without cracking, plus a straight-talk intro to selling: pricing, where to show your work, and what to expect.
Modules 11&12
Finding Your Style & Next Steps
Less technique, more direction. How to develop a recognizable style, use feedback well, and figure out where you want to take this after the course ends.
If you're going to use it every day, make it pretty and functional!
This course isn't just about giving you the ability to make things, but helping you gain the confidence to experiment, make mistakes, and enjoy the process of working with clay.
By the end, you'll know how to prepare your clay, center it, pull forms, and get a piece through the full process. I'll be there when something isn't working, and I'll be honest about why.
